Join us in the Adventure Bike Club – Marquette County
Our Mission: To inspire people, particularly youth, to experience outdoor adventures through mountain biking and trails, with a focus on building self-esteem, active, healthy lifestyles, and trail stewardship.
Adventure Bike Club is a great opportunity for your mountain biker to improve their skills, meet new kids, ride new trails, and gain confidence riding stuff they could not ride before. ABC is ideal for the kids who just love riding their bikes and hanging out with friends. ABC coaches go through training provided by 906 Adventure Team, the National Interscholastic Cycling Assocation (NICA) and Wisconsin High School Cycling League. Many have participated in on-the-bike training held at Trek Headquarters in Waterloo, Wisconsin and attended the Leadership Summit also held at Trek Headquarters every year in April. Some coaches have been CPR and First-Aid certified while ALL coaches have undergone and passed background checks.
Your registration fee helps us maintain youth development programming this year and years into the future. Included with your registration fee your mountain biker will receive: an Adventure Team t-shirt, 906 water bottle, ESI grips, 906 stickers and coaching from a large group of committed, passionate people who want to see #morekidsonbikes.
No bike? No problem.
When & Where?
We will begin June 11th @ 6:00PM. The location will change from week to week as we plan to host rides at a variety of locations. They will include: NTN South Trails, NTN North Trails, and the RAMBA Trails in Ishpeming. Keep an eye on the calendar.
What will the rides be like?
This group is open to ALL kids Grade K-12 but will be limited to the first 75 who register. All abilities are welcome! Our number one goal—FUN! Parents can expect the rides to last roughly 90 minutes. All of our rides will be “trail riding” in nature. Although the riders will receive coaching on riding a variety of trails, hitting downhill runs, jumps, drops will not be permitted on the group rides. Wheelies and “hands free” riding are also not allowed. Helmets are to be worn at all times.
What equipment is required?
Cycling helmets are mandatory; no helmet means no ride. Eye protection and cycling gloves are suggested. Kids should be dressed in comfortable riding clothes (e.g., cycling-specific clothes, gym shorts, t-shirts…no jeans). A full water bottle or hydration pack are required and a nutritious snack is strongly recommended. Bikes designed for off-road riding will be necessary.
Who will work with the kids?
Our coaches are committed to providing a safe, fun and educational experience during Adventure Bike Club. All of our coaches will: Register with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, pass a background check, watch Risk Management 101 and pass the quiz, watch Concussion Training and pass the quiz. Volunteers must be certified at minimum as a Level 1 Coach. In order to lead groups, we ask coaches to be Level 2 or higher.
